Training for “race day”

Even in her wildest dreams, Debbie Murphy never imagined that she would be training to walk a half-marathon.  However, now she is working towards training her body (and mind) to walk 13.1 miles during the upcoming BCS Half-Marathon on December 10, 2023.

Her pain story began in 1997 with an auto accident that tore the ligaments in her pelvis.  That began a journey of chronic pain — treatments, medications (including prescription opioids), surgeries, guilt, hopelessness, and despair.  It took years of struggle before the principles of pain science, neuroplasticity, and hope began to yield fruit of increased function, purpose, and a sense of control over her condition.

Now, armed with an understanding of all of the factors impacting her pain experience, and the skills to effectively manage her “discomfort”, Debbie has slowly strengthened her body.  She now has the determination to prove that, one-step-at-a-time, she can strengthen her body to walk further, accomplish more, and be an example to others.
