Jim Murphy, LMFT, NBC-HWC

Medical Family Therapist

Life can get hard sometimes. Having someone to explore your health related difficulties, strategize solutions, heal relationships, help find resources, or understand and be understood by your medical providers, can make all the difference.

I have had a variety of experiences in life that have equipped me to work with Pain in the Rear View, helping people with various challenges and goals:

    • Able to file with the following health insurance plans: Aetna, Cigna, Optum, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Medicare
    • Managing Member of Grow Forward Counseling, PLLC
    • Bachelor of Business Systems Analysis (my geek-side) – Harding University, Searcy, AR
    • Master of Marriage & Family Therapy (my people-helping side) – Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX
    • Health and Wellness Coaching training through Pain Coach Academy
    • Working on a certificate program in medical behavioral health consulting
    • Married to Debbie Murphy who struggled for 20+ years of chronic pain following an auto accident (now a pain management coach)
    • 2x cancer thriver – I seem to get cancer every 30 years.  I understand getting “the news”
    • In spite of my cancer (or maybe because of it and my desire to live as healthy as possible, one-day-at-a-time), I’m a regular runner (ten half-marathons, one marathon)
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #201856, Texas) since 2012
    • Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach
    • Instructor of coaches for Pain Coach Academy
    • Clinical Fellow in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Clinical Fellow and member of AAMFT’s Family Therapists in Healthcare Network

I’m here to explore various challenges or growth areas related to health issues:  relationship struggles, grief, depression, anxiety, health decisions, life goals, important decisions, strategy discussions related to care, treatment options, communications with providers.
