about us
Debbie Murphy's Journey
When my trusted friend and physical therapist brought to light the study of neuroplasticity, I finally felt empowered to bring about my own change. My journey changed from an outside battle in which I had no power, to an inward fight in which I wielded the sword. I slowly but surely shifted my mindset and changed the way I thought, and therefore, altered the way my brain interpreted pain. Now, completely free of opioids, I am living a healthy and productive life. Armed with knowledge, tools and experience, I work to empower those still caught in the grip of chronic pain and other health challenges.
In addition to my coaching work, I teach health education courses (chronic pain, chronic illness, balance, etc.) in my local community. Researcher and friend Vani Mathur, PhD and I have recently launched a non-profit network to change the way pain is understood, treated, and experienced.

Jim Murphy's Story
I was unaware when graduating with my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy that I was to become a two-time cancer survivor and spouse of a disabled (but eventually functional) partner.
I walked along side Debbie Murphy, Certified Pain Coach, for the 21 years of her chronic pain struggle. I rejoiced as she began to find the path to a more functional life. I’ve witnessed the power of the pain management principles that Debbie, researchers, and other Health and Wellness Coaches understand. I’m pleased to have joined the Pain in the Rear View, LLC team — as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and graduated coaching student from Pain Coach Academy’s Health and Wellness Coach Certification program and as a Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).
I have recently begun teaching some of the sessions of Pain Coach Academy’s Health and Wellness Coaching course. They have asked me to instruct in “Health and Wellness Coaching and Coaching Theory”, “Positive Psychology”, “Coaching Call Structure and Flow”, “Listening, Mindfulness, and Presence”, and “Visioning”.
As a Medical Family Therapist, I use my training, experience, and understanding of health challenges to assist individuals, their loved ones, and their medical practitioners thrive through their health issues.
