Debbie’s journey is at the heart of Pain in the Rear View. For over two decades, Debbie lived with chronic pain that seemed impossible to overcome. Through persistence, faith, and the discovery of new approaches, she learned how to reframe her experience and reclaim her life. Now, as a Certified Pain Management Coach, she walks alongside others who are seeking freedom and healing.
Debbie shared why she founded Pain in the Rear View. Her mission is to bring hope, tools, and guidance to those still living in the grip of pain and to show that transformation is possible.
For more than two decades, Debbie lived in the exhausting cycle of chronic pain, searching for relief through doctors, surgeries, medications, and countless treatments that brought little lasting help.
Everything changed when a trusted friend and physical therapist introduced her to the science of neuroplasticity. For the first time, Debbie felt empowered to shift the battle inward, transforming her mindset, retraining her brain, and changing how her body experienced pain. Through this process, she broke free from opioids and discovered a path to lasting healing.
Today, Debbie is living a full, healthy, and productive life. As a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and Certified Pain Management Coach, she equips others with the tools, knowledge, and encouragement they need to overcome chronic pain and reclaim their lives.
Beyond her coaching work, Debbie teaches health education courses in her community and co-leads a non-profit initiative with researcher and friend Vani Mathur, PhD, dedicated to transforming how pain is understood, treated, and experienced.

When I graduated with my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, I never imagined I would also become a two-time cancer survivor and the spouse of a partner living with long-term disability. These personal experiences have shaped not only my life, but also my approach as a therapist and coach.
For 21 years, I walked alongside my wife, Debbie Murphy, now a Certified Pain Management Coach, through her chronic pain journey. I rejoiced as she discovered the principles that helped her regain function and begin living more fully. I have witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of the very pain management strategies that Debbie, fellow researchers, and Health & Wellness Coaches teach today.
I am honored to serve as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) with Pain in the Rear View, LLC. I also bring my expertise into the classroom, teaching for Pain Coach Academy in courses such as Health and Wellness Coaching and Coaching Theory, Positive Psychology, Values and Strengths, and Visioning.
As a Medical Family Therapist, I combine clinical training, personal experience, and a deep understanding of health challenges to help individuals, their families, and their care teams find hope, resilience, and ways to thrive through difficult seasons.
